MODRA LUNA - Broken Toys

Born and bred in in South-West London after a chance encounter at one of London’s most iconic venues, Modra Luna are a rarity. The kind of band you only discover once in every Blue Moon. With every Lunar Phase comes a style and influence. The first quarter bringing in the element of grunge and raw, heavy rhythms. The full moon, bringing in new wave and post-punk attitudes giving them funked-up bass lines and a seductive synthy edge. The last quarter has an alternative twist keeping even themselves guessing what’s coming next. A new moon brings psychedelic rock and abstract ideas explored through hypnotic hooks and crooning tones. All these phases combine to create a tapestry of modern, fresh and unique indie charm with a surreal sense of direction. Modra Luna spent 2019 circuiting the London music scene, playing venues such as Oslo Hackney, The Finsbury, Notting Hill Arts Club, Nambucca, sharing the stage with bands such, The New Nostalgia, Embassy, Sub Pacific and many more. Their charming debut single, Lola, was released on 2nd of May 2019. Being short-listed for Hotvox’s New Blood Competition and starting to play outside their hometown, Modra Luna is set to make some noise in 2020. Witness this blue moon rising.

Centred around hypnotic riffs and heavy tones, ‘Broken Toys’ is Modra Luna’s exciting second release. Aiming to show a different side of the band’s style and influences, it’s a song about the feeling of frustration and not being able to move past an obstacle, self-built or otherwise. This theme comes through in the song’s unique sense of urgency, all while remaining playful. Whether you are stuck, re-playing a memory on repeat, or wallowing in what might have been, rather than looking forward to what’s next, you’re inevitably ‘Playing the role of a Broken Toy’. In today’s society that feeling of frustration is more prevalent and relatable than ever, with so many people feeling powerless to stop decisions being made that affect their future or having to settle for a hand they didn’t want to be dealt. ‘Broken Toys’ is a song addressing all that.
