THE GREAT DICTATORS - Play Dead Together

’Play Dead Together’ is the brand new single by Danish indie rock trio The Great Dictators. The song is both punchy and laid back at the same time. Layers of atmospheric synthesizers hide behind a heavy bass and an old distorted drum machine. The band recorded the sound of a flat tire which runs throughout the track. A few inspirations for the single include The Psychedelic Furs, Yo La Tengo and the ambient albums of Brian Eno. Songwriter Dragut Lugalzagosi on ‘Play Dead Together’: “This is our tiny epic slacker hymn. A song about feeling confused with the world. Sometimes you just feel like playing dead together with someone you’re safe with.” The Great Dictators will release their new album ‘One Eye Opener’ April 17th via Celebration Records. It will be their first in over 3 years since ‘Women’ in 2016.

MODRA LUNA - Broken Toys

Born and bred in in South-West London after a chance encounter at one of London’s most iconic venues, Modra Luna are a rarity. The kind of band you only discover once in every Blue Moon. With every Lunar Phase comes a style and influence. The first quarter bringing in the element of grunge and raw, heavy rhythms. The full moon, bringing in new wave and post-punk attitudes giving them funked-up bass lines and a seductive synthy edge. The last quarter has an alternative twist keeping even themselves guessing what’s coming next. A new moon brings psychedelic rock and abstract ideas explored through hypnotic hooks and crooning tones. All these phases combine to create a tapestry of modern, fresh and unique indie charm with a surreal sense of direction. Centred around hypnotic riffs and heavy tones, ‘Broken Toys’ is Modra Luna’s exciting second release. Aiming to show a different side of the band’s style and influences, it’s a song about the feeling of frustration and not being able to move past an obstacle, self-built or otherwise. This theme comes through in the song’s unique sense of urgency, all while remaining playful. Whether you are stuck, re-playing a memory on repeat, or wallowing in what might have been, rather than looking forward to what’s next, you’re inevitably ‘Playing the role of a Broken Toy’. Undesired and discarded all you want to do is ‘Try Again’.

In today’s society that feeling of frustration is more prevalent and relatable than ever, with so many people feeling powerless to stop decisions being made that affect their future or having to settle for a hand they didn’t want to be dealt. ‘Broken Toys’ is a song addressing all that. NUDZ - The Watcher

NUDZ was formed in 2017 in Belo Horizonte / MG, by musicians from the Minas Gerais – Sepultura’s hometown - rock scene. It originated from low tuned guitar riffs (drop C), exploring harmonies of alternative rock, stoner, grunge, and modern metal. The band arose from the need to transcend daily life, doing something honest, with purely artistic intentions. It has a striking timbre in the vocal and lyrics that tell life stories.

The group proposes to leave what it feels in the songs, with nudity, living up to the name “NUDZ”, (makes an indirect allusion to the term NU METAL) exploring density, groove and sublime harmonies / melodies. The band's influences range from Alice in Chains, to Deftones, Queens of The Stone Age, and even Brazilian bands like Scalene, ISSO, and Ego Kill Talent and The Space Time Ripples.

The band released their first EP entitled “The Watcher” and has been gaining prominence on Spotify with thousands of monthly listeners. They also released 2 music videos (on youtube): Occasional Mistake, (Jan / 2019), and Time for Recreation (Oct /2019) and in a short time, together they accumulated over 250 thousand views on Youtube and hundreds of positive comments. The music videos were the subject of reports on several Brazilian music blogs such as “Whiplash” and “Wikimetal”, among dozens of others. The band also created good notoriety on social networks. The launch of the “Time for Recreation” video was reported on the blog “I have more records than friends” the 2nd largest music blog in the country, second only to Rolling Stone Brazil). With “The Watcher” the band wants to show the world that "is possible to change and don’t belong to a slavery world where everyone is controlled and give up their lives. Also, don’t belong to a system who only care about profits. We want to show to the people that is possible to reach their dreams, is possible to be “yourself” and “ourselves” in front of a scenario that discards people as humans and put on us a kind of bar code, turning us in a bunch of people made for consumption and to be system slave like a wake of plastic humans."

In january 27 th , 2020, the band released their third music video "My Sexual Tool" which is the strongest of all and forbidden to under 18. In addition, the group plans to start recording their second EP in the second half of 2020.

TWIN STRANGER -Tears Of Joy

Twin Stranger is a power-pop project led by Welsh singer and multi-instrumentalist Alex McConnachie. The band's sound is a mix of hooky bass-driven pop melodies, synth freak-outs and dreamy guitar soundscapes. 

Initially a bedroom recording project, McConnachie enlisted his multi-instrumentalist brother Liam as well as friends, bassist Josh Newington, Joe Tobin on keyboards and drummer Eric Karvik.

With influences ranging from the seventies power pop of Big Star to the nineties avant-pop of Stereolab, Twin Stranger also draw upon the likes of Sonic Youth, Yo La Tengo and Pavement. Having organically evolved into a full live band following a successful string of shows across South Wales and the South West, Twin Stranger's debut single Tears of Joy released in February 2020.

Speaking of the track Alex McConnachie says:
“Tears of Joy was written from the point of view of a couple in the not so distant future, looking through a scrapbook of their lives with fond but hazy distant memories of first loves and exploring the world together. It’s about not taking things for granted, what might seem like the mundane 9-5 grind now, could turn out to be some of the best moments of your life. It’s about not wishing those moments away.”

The track revolves around a driving kraut-rock rhythm track, hypnotic droning organ, melodic, mesmerizing singsong vocals, wrapped in a fuzzy blanket of guitars.  

Tears of Joy was produced at McConnachie’s home studio, with additional recording and production duties by Todd Campbell at Stompbox studios in South Wales.

NEAR MRS - Catch Of The Day

Meeting in Nottingham during their first year of university, indie-rock band Near Mrs formed in November 2018 and have hit the ground running in the Nottingham music scene, having since played at Rock City main stage and won the audience vote at the Nottingham Trent Battle of the Bands competition. Since releasing music on streaming platform, the 5 have amassed over 25,000 streams across all platforms with their two singles and topped the Cambridge 105 NMG chart with their debut ‘She Goes’. 

The band are growing their fanbase, primarily through Instagram, and starting to branch out to other cities such as Cambridge and Leicester while honing their craft with songs about matters that personify the essence of 5 young lads from the UK going through life and doing what they love the most, with intricate, captivating guitar work and energetic, groovy rhythms.

Bear Ghost - Sirens

Bear Ghost is an Adventure Rock band from Phoenix, AZ that fuses intricate musicianship, melodies and song structure to deliver a one of a kind sound. With the release of the band's first full length album entitled "Blasterpiece", the Phoenix market took notice.
 

Bear Ghost quickly became one of the area's favorite bands and "Blasterpiece" received high critical acclaim, winning the market's Album Of The Year for 2016 from the Phoenix New Times.

"Blasterpiece" was written and performed by Bear Ghost and recorded by Jeremy Parker at Premier Studios. XYLAROO - Like Planes Taking Off In The Wind

Sisters Holly and Coco blend catchy melodies with striking harmonies and lyrics to create their unique Xylaroo sound. The sisters grew up all over the world, starting in Papua New Guinea and ending in East London where they are now based.

Their first album 'Sweetooth' was met with rave reviews and radio play from the likes of Dermot O'Leary, Frank Skinner, John Kennedy and Steve Lamacq. This was followed up by extensive touring, supporting the likes of Mika, Frank Turner and Matt Berry.

Francesco Luz - Extraordinary Men

Francesco Luz was born in Rome in 1982.
After performing in Italy, Greece and Australia with the band "Trim", he decides to dedicate himself to his solo project. He starts collaborating with the writer Luigi Abramo and Matteo Palladini, producer and guitarist of the progressive band “Heartache”.

In Fall 2019, Francesco releases his first self-produced album “Extraordinary Men” and launched as second single the title track “Extraordinary Men”.

Francesco said about the song:“Extraordinary Men is like a journey across my universe. When I think about Extraordinary Men, who have changed the mind of million people, I feel good and my soul fly away. I would like, with this song, that the listener fly away too."

The video of the single “Extraordinary Men”, also directed by Ari Takahashi, was selected as Best Music Video at the Paris Music Video Underground Festival, January 2020, at the Rome Prisma Independent Film Awards, January 2020 and at the Berlin Lift-off Global Network Festival, January 2020

Keith Mosfet - It's You

Canadian/Irish Keith Mosfet is the definition of an “artist”. Using inspiration from impressionist oil paintings and combining his background in electronic engineering, Keith took on the challenge of writing, recording and mixing the whole of his 2019 EP “Superficial Hypocrite”.

“I’d have my vision, listen to the song and make changes in my head, record in layers, listen, then record and mix new ideas on top. Layering like in oil painting.”

On his newest 2020 single “It’s You”, Keith continues to showcase his songwriting, creative and engineering skills, and shares his softer side. He describes the small moments in which one can fall in love while also encompassing his love of experimental, high-energy music.

“When I was writing the lyrics for “It’s You”, I wanted to describe the first time I saw her face, the first time we danced, to the first time I saw her smile….Every moment was important and I wanted to put that into this song.”

Clearly heard in Keith’s new single are his indie-rock influences like Joy Division, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard , Beck and Oh Sees but with his own unique, psychedelic twist, using vocal effects and layering synthesizers to showcase his unique artistry.

Attawalpa - Borrowed Time

Attawalpa is a London based South-American multi-instrumentalist. His meticulous production, his melodies and honest lyrics evoke the future as much as the past. Having collaborated with artists such as Misty Miller, Mick Jagger, Lauren Spiteri, Shame, Lokkhi Terra and Jamie T, Attawalpa has decided to step out of obscurity and into the light.

Attawalpa released his first single 'Borrowed Time' from the debut ‘Spells’ EP and received a deservingly generous share of radio and press across the UK. Including BBC introducing, BBC 6Music (Steve Lamacq, Tom Robbinson), Tom Robinson’s Mixtape. Charlie Ashcroft’s show on Amazing Tunes, Harriet Rose show on Fubar radio and John Kennedy’s X-Posure show. It was shortlisted on Tom Robinsons ‘ Fresh On The Net’. The Visual was shot by Grain Freeze in one take and it premiered on Notion Magazine on dec 3rd. The visual was also featured on Nowness editors pick.

Nel Unlit - Dream's Theme

Nel Unlit are an indie/folk nine piece from the North East of England. They have made a folk opera "Wake for The Dreaming", based on Neil Gaiman's epic Sandman series of graphic novels.

It tells the story of Brant Tucker, who crashes his car and becomes lost walking in thick June snow before discovering a mysterious Inn that plays the setting for the rest of the record. In this Inn he is told stories by other peculiar guests. Tales of wily hangmen, vengeful elves, Christ like child presidents and more. It is these stories that make up the rest of the album before the story climaxes in the funeral of the God of Dream.

Drawing from their roots in rock, folk, theatre and classical music, they use all tools at their disposal to create vibrant portraits. Field recordings and grand orchestration are used to create immersive environments. A cast of singers play roles within the story, some of whom, having their own themes which recur throughout the record. As an independent project, recording required creativity and adaptability. They used bedrooms, beaches, a local social club/ music institution, The Westgarth Social Club and even a local museum (Dorman Museum).

The Curious - If She Only Knew

The Curious are a high energy 4-piece Indie/Alternative band from London made up of Dominic Smith [vocals], Sam Roberts [drums], Alexander Dreyer-Nuti [bass] and Jay Fricker [guitar]. The band formed in late 2014, but after a line-up change in 2018 the band took the following year off to develop a new sound and record new material. Highlights include playing festivals such as BST Hyde Park, Camp Bestival and Into The Wild.

“If She Only Knew” is the first of 3 singles recorded at Lightship95, and mastered at Metropolis Studios in London. It's a melodic pop-rock song with a catchy sing along chorus and a hard hitting guitar/synth driven jam.

The lyrics are about how insecurity and anxiety can affect people and relationships. The girl in the song is going through a rough time and sees the world through a veil of depression. The boy is there to support her and to make her understand that we all live in an artificial world, almost like a dream, where everyone fights daily to fit in by the ruthless/cruel standards of social media. He tells her to take a moment, “sit down”, to find something that will make her happy, like a special place, so that he can take her there, to find peace within herself and leave the troubles behind.

Carnival Kid - We Were The Shadows

We Were The Shadows is the new single by Christian Stezycki's solo project Carnival Kid. It's a tender indie rock song about friendship and youth dreams. The catchy and memorable chorus combined with beautiful guitar melodies and strong rhythm section, make this track one of my recent favourites.

Christian Stezycki says about it: "We Were The Shadows is a burning love letter to my childhood in an East German small town - where we felt like the heroes from all the songs and films that made us dream of brighter places than the one we grew up in. And while we were running from responsibility and discipline we knew that the moment would come when we had to realize that our heroic dreams would end some day. The song is a reminder that even in the darkest of places there's room for fantastic adventures and that under these circumstances even stronger bonds between friends can be created."

He also explains how the name of  Carnival Kid came out : "The 11th of November, eleven minutes past 11 o’clock in the morning, sees the beginning of carnival season in Germany. Many people, including myself, don’t really care about this. But  the 11th of November 2009, at 9 past 11 A.M., my son saw the light of day. Children born on this day are called “Faschingskinder” in Germany - carnival kids. And since this event changed basically every aspect of my life, including my perception, writing and interpretation of music, I felt it to be a pretty perfect name for a solo project.
Carnival also includes the idea of hiding behind a mask, which I am kind of doing in a linguistic sense when I am writing and singing in English (or when I’m writing this pseudo-international text). The kid-part of the name might give a hint to all the struggles you go through in your thirties, but I guess I better leave that to interpretation. And if this description made you laugh your ass off since it’s so cheesy, then that’s also some kind of carnival I suppose…"

The first two songs in 2020, "We Used To Shout At You" and "We Were The Shadows", have actually been written at around 2009, when his previous band Jovernanté decided to part ways and lots of great material got lost on the working bench. He recorded them again, changed them and now they are finally seeing the light of day.

Jason Keisling - Bystanders

JASON KEISLING is a Washington DC-based songwriter, producer and composer known for con-ceptual songwriting and blending lush soundscapes with psychedelic synths and experimental guitars.

His new single Bystanders is a blend of post-progressive rock with 80s alternative rock. This song explores some unique chord progressions, polyrhthyms and internal rhyme schemes that make it stand out. 

Lyrically is about people always looking toward the future or reminiscing the past at the expense of enjoying the present. People don’t fully embrace the moment until it is buried in nostalgia. 

Jason Keisling says about it: "The song is written in B Mixolydian, which was chosen because it is overall a happy sound much like the major scale, but it has a hint of sadness to it. I felt this perfectly fit the feeling of nostalgia, which is generally a happy feeling but with a hint of longing or sadness that the time is gone."

Sidetrack is the new single from the Indie-Folk quartet Hazey Jane, based in Hackney.It's an indie pop-rock, energetic song with a catchy chorus, driving guitars, melodic bass, dynamic drums and wonderful vocals while the sound production is very clear and professional. Bobby and Laurent met at Secondary School, playing their first show together aged 14. The duo continued to write and perform until Paul and Connor joined in 2014 to expand on the band's acoustic arrangements.

Following an incredibly sucessfull Crowdfunder campaign, Hazey Jane’s debut EP ‘Us On A Wire’ was released in August 2016. Produced by Marcel Van Limbeek (Tori Amos) and Sander Van Laere (NAO, Mount Kimbie), this five-track release enthused Charlotte Harry of Vulture Hound magazine to proclaim, “Hazey Jane are a band that are ready, they will be great”. 
  
On the back of ‘Us On A Wire’, the band independently booked their inaugural headline tour of the UK, selling out venues across the southeast. 

Hazey Jane's second EP 'Lifeboat' was release in June 2018. Since, it has received taste-maker support from BBC Introducing London, Record of the Day and Sofar Sounds. Following 'Lifeboat's success, the band have performed at numerous UK Festivals including; The Great Escape, Greenbelt and Cambridge Folk Festival.

From the ashes of Matchstickmen and Rain May Fall… comes ‘ATTIC THEORY’

New name, new beginning for the Liverpudlian based rock band.

Lewis Wright and Peter Donnelly (Matchstickmen) are joined by

guitarist Tim Cunningham (Rain May Fall), Kenny McArthur on bass and Matt Simon (Ex- Limehawk and Guns N' Roses tribute, Guns 2 Roses) on drums and will continue their journey as ATTIC THEORY. The new line-up will perform their self-proclaimed genre of Alternative Groove Rock.

Heavy hitters in the local scene, Attic Theory are as grungy as one can be without losing the rock 'n' roll charm.

The inspiration behind the name Attic Theory was taken from an

episode of Elementary – a CBS television series based on Sir Arthur

Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes detective stories with contemporary twists. It stars Jonny Lee Miller as Holmes and Lucy Liu as Watson.

Attic Theory have toured and supported such acts as Elvana, Derange, The Soap Girls, Saving Abel and Candlebox and have just completed a UK & European tour as direct support for American rock outfit, Tantric.

Marc Todd - Feel Like a Hurricane

With influences from Ray LaMontagne, Nick Drake, PJ Harvey and Jonny Cash, the new single from alt-folk newcomer Marc Todd ' Feel Like a Hurricane ', delivers melancholic lyrics and exhilarating guitar rifts that keep an audience on their toes. This music is honest, passionate and true. The song recorded at Westpoint Studios with producer Shane Shanahan (Jeff  Beck, Tom Jones, Primal Scream, Simply Red, Seal, Bjork, Pet Shop Boys, Kayne West, Adele, Ben Howard, Dizzee Rascal).

Marc Todd released a debut EP in September 2017 and now recording his first debut album for 2020. He is regularly featured on Pat Lyon’s (Spokesperson of Fat White Family) PH7 radio show and has a couple of single releases in 2016, with Fast Factory Records in New York under his belt. He was a part of Truefest 2016, Y Not Festival 2016 and South Norwood Festival 2017. He supported : Jonny Lives! at The Beatrice in London and Jonna Wang (one of her only two gigs in the UK) at the Amersham Arms, London. His tracks also feature on Film : The Director: A Comedy About Homelessness.
