Them Evils - Rollin' Stoned and Livin' Free EP (EP 2018)

Hot on the heels of the release of first single "Got Me Rockin'", Southern California based Them Evils are set to release an EP of epic Rock N' Roll swagger titled "Rollin' Stoned and Livin' Free" on May 4th through Burning Records.  Both were produced by Kato Khandwala (The Pretty Reckless, Blondie, Drowning Pool, Pierce the Veil). The band is currently on a West Coast run with Red Sun Rising, and then embarks on a national tour that will include stops at Welcome To Rockville, Carolina Rebellion, and Rock On The Range.

Them Evils have started off fast and are accelerating rapidly with "Got Me Rockin'", which premiered @ Loudwire. Key playlist adds on Spotify Rock Hard and Loudwire Wired Weekly; and Google Play Music Rock Hotlist and Hard Rock Hotlist radio are helping the band gain early momentum.  New press looks that include AXS, Rock Revolt, Alternative Addiction and others are adding to the bands critical acclaim.  A video for "Got Me Rockin'" will debut in early May.

Them Evils' late-night joyride through Rock N' Roll's seedy underbelly was born in the shadows of neon vice and nocturnal living in Las Vegas, when Jordan and Jake met in High School.  They started writing and playing together and knew that they had a chemistry that was undeniable. In 2013 they made the move to Southern California to pursue their music professionally – with nothing to fall back on other than their drive and belief in their music and each other. They connected with David through a friend that worked at a bar with Jordan and who knew they were looking for a permanent drummer. Delaney auditioned for Griffin and Massanari, and all 3 knew it was a good fit immediately. The nasty energy befitting their name grew from there.

Inspired by equal parts of rock giants like Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, and Queens of The Stone Age, among others, the band pays tribute to their roots while carving out their own unique sound.  Them Evils music is at times throwback without being too derivative and is thoroughly modern. "We pretty much made our own scene," Griffin says. "We started out doing straight up rock and roll, and that's what we're still doing... That said, we're always evolving.”

The band has released Two EPs: their debut Cold Black Love (2015) and the self-titled Them Evils (2016). They made inroads @ Active Rock Radio in 2017 with "She Got Nothin", which peaked @ #22 on the BDS Rock Indicator chart.

They were born for the stage and have been road warriors for the past 4 years - the band have caught the ear of no less an icon thanZakk Wylde, who had them open for Zakk Sabbath in 2017.  They have been constantly touring clubs, as well as with The Pretty Reckless, Alter Bridge, and 10 Years, among others. More tour dates being booked for the summer.

Track Listing:
1). Got Me Rockin'
2). She Got Nothin'
3). Gets Me High
4). Have One On Me
5). Untold

Shawn Phillips - Continuance (2018)

Music Legend & Virtuoso Guitarist Shawn Phillips Releases His Most Daring, Socially Conscious Album Yet with Continuance –
Out Now on Tunecore Distribution

The record features the last work by Phillips’ longtime friend and collaborator, composer Paul Buckmaster

Shawn Phillips, one of music’s most daring, influential and enigmatic figures, has an announced the release of his new album, Continuance, via Tunecore Distribution. The record – Phillips’ 26th solo effort – sees the genre-bending singer-songwriter and virtuoso guitarist, who was once described by Bill Graham as “the best-kept secret in the music business,” mixing hard rock, blues, funk, jazz, classical and New Age into an enthralling, singular style of expression.

“I didn’t set out to create this album for people who want some background music while they’re having dinner,” says Phillips. “And it’s not something to be sampled piecemeal. I wanted to make a complete experience, a record that takes you on a journey both musically and lyrically. That’s all I’ve ever done.”

The aptly named Continuance extends Phillips’ commitment to making ambitious, introspective yet socially conscious music. Just as he did on the psychedelic staple “Season of the Witch,” which he co-authored with Donovan in 1966, Phillips weaves evocative imagery with indelible melodies and progressive arrangements, resulting in music that is by turns angry and uplifting, soothing and unsettling. “I came up at a time when you tried to write songs that mattered,” Phillips states. “Lyrically and musically, you challenge yourself and your audience. I always felt an obligation to never play it safe, and I’m certainly not going to stop now.”

Phillips brought that same sense of adventure into Rose Lane Studios in Carpenteria, California, where he recorded his new songs with a group of musicians (Lady Gaga’s Brockett Parsons, Keyboards; Anthony Crawford, Bass; Sebastian Persini, Drums; Danny Janklow, Saxophone; Josh Seguin, lead Guitar and Jonathan McCuen, Guitar on “C’Mon Round) he had never met before. “My co-producer, Sjoerd Koppert, recommended the players, and I put my faith in him,” Phillips explains. “I came in, told them there wasn’t any music on paper, that I would not tell them what to play, played them the music, and off we went. Apart from a basic structure, It was free-form. I didn’t know what to expect, but a minute into the first tune, ‘Man With a Gun,’ I said, ‘All right. This is gonna work!’”

On that hard-edged track, the musicians explode fiercely and intuitively, and Phillips makes no apologies for the song’s on-target and timely lyrics. “What’s happening in the world and with this administration disgusts me,” he says. “I think we have the singular most unqualified, incompetent individual ever to grace the Oval Office right now. I grew up with guns, but to see what people are doing to sell weapons, profiting on people’s pain, it appalls me. An untrained citizen doesn’t need an AR-15.”

Similarly, he casts a discerning eye at the current administration and widens his net to include all of the world’s oligarchs on the funky, jam-like “Furious Desperation,” which includes a soundbite from a speech by Vermont senator and 2016 presidential candidate Bernie Sanders. “The title is a reference to Ralph Waldo Emerson’s ‘Quiet Desperation,’” Phillips explains. “That was then, this is now. The majority of the world is trying to survive, and you have people in power who are deliberately making it difficult.”

But Phillips dials down the righteous vitriol on the absorbing and transporting opening cut “Life,” which is propelled by one of the guitarist’s most elegant acoustic guitar figures. His six-string phrasing is superlative on the hypnotic instrumental “Tribute to D,” written in honor of fellow guitar icon, Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour. “I met David through my friend Bob Ezrin,” Phillips recalls. “I thought he was a kind, intelligent soul. I was in South Africa when I wrote the song, and I thought the melodies sounded very Gilmour, so it’s my tribute to him.”

Several of the tracks are graced by thrilling orchestral arrangements by legendary conductor and composer Paul Buckmaster, whom Phillips worked with and called his closest friend for over five decades. These cuts represent the last works by Buckmaster, who passed away in November 2017. “I talked to Paul by Skype the day before he died,” Phillips remembers. “It’s so sad that he’s gone, and it’s an absolute honor to have him on this record.”

In the early ’60s he played a coffee house in Saskatoon Saskatchewan where a young woman who was a waitress there, asked him to teach her some guitar. He did so for some 2 weeks. Her name was Joni Mitchell. Then, while playing in Toronto, he met Ravi Shankar after attending his concert and Shankar graciously gave him his first lesson right there and then. Arriving in England in the mid-’60s, the Texas-born Phillips had a way of pulling people into his musical orbit. A master on six- and 12-string guitars, having learned sitar from Ravi Shankar and, in turn, gave George Harrison his first lessons on the instrument. Donovan called upon his songwriting services, and Paul McCartney asked him to sing backup on Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. While in England, he also recorded with Traffic members Steve Winwood and Jim Capaldi. “It’s all history now,” says Phillips, “but at the time, we were just musicians hanging out and having fun. We really didn’t think about the importance of what we were doing.”

In the ensuing decades, Phillips released a string of rapturously received records – his four-album run between 1970 and 1972 along contains the classics Contribution, Second Contribution, Collaboration and Faces – and has seen his work compiled on not one, but two “best of” collections. While continuing to record and tour, he’s made his home in Italy and South Africa before moving to Louisville, Kentucky with his wife Juliette and 12 year old son Liam in 2016.

“More than anything, I just want to open people’s minds and appeal to the better nature in everyone,” says Phillips, who cites “In Grace We Intend,” the graceful tone poem that comprises the 9th track on Continuance, as a summation of that message. “I showed the lyrics to Jay Naidoo, who was Nelson Mandela’s closest advisor from the day he stepped out of prison to the end of his presidency in South Africa. He told me, ‘I spent three years writing a book, and you just said it all on one page.’ As an artist, you feel pretty special when you hear something like that from such an extraordinary humanist.”

Continuance can be streamed on Spotify and is available for purchase on iTunes and on Phillips’ website. In June, Phillips will tour Canada and he’s planning dates in the U.S. for mid-summer.

Elemae - Fiction (EP 2018)

Elemae hail from various parts of New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania (US) and built their band based on their universal inspiration of music, and a friendship that kept them writing, rehearsing and recording together despite their non complimentary geo-graphic locations. They developed their own unique way of constructing cross-genre material, combining post-hard core with Brit rock and classic rock influences with a shoegaze twist.

Back in 2005 and progressing on from two album releases on the now defunct Embrace Records label, Elemae pushed their own musical boundaries to produce their 'Popular Misconceptions Of Happiness' LP. Tracks from the album were to feature on a diverse range of compilations, featuring along side the likes of The Strokes and Snapcase as well as placements on TV and a being selected for Metal Hammer Magazine's cover mount CD.

With various members moving into the new roles in emerging US rock/indie bands - Hidden Cabins, The World Concave and (Damn) This Desert Air - UK/US label Engineer Records has now released the re-mastered tracks from recordings 2008 to compile Elemae's 3 track 'Fiction EP'

Elemae feature Craig Cirinelli (Vox), Chris Homentosky (Guitar), Dan Nolan (Drums), Chris Smith (Guitar) and Mike Barbagallo (Bass). The band originally formed in 1999 and dis-banded in 2008. Lisa LaRue - Origins (2018)

Lisa LaRue to Release New Retrospective Album “Origins” Featuring Gilli Smyth, John Payne, Michael Sadler and Others on Melodic Revolution Records

Recently signed to Melodic Revolution Records, keybordist & composer Lisa LaRue is set to release her new album “Origins” in April 2018! A double album celebrating 25 years and 11 releases by LaRue, “Origins” features some of the best musicians in the business: John Payne Asia, GPS), Michael Sadler (Saga), Mitch Perry (Talas, Aerosmith), Gilli Smyth (Gong), Don Schiff (Rocket Scientist, Kracked Earth), Federico Fantacone (Orchestre Celesti) John Baker (Forever Twelve, Mars Hollow) as well as Steve Adams, Brenda K, Michael Wheeler, Merrill Hale, Svetlan Raket (Par Lindh Project), John “Yafke” Timothy, Michael Alvarez.

Says Lisa, “The title takes it back to where it all started. Finishing a career, where one started. The photo on the back of the CD was taken on Burnett’s Mound, an infamous site in Topeka, Kansas where I grew up, and where the photo of ‘Kansas’ was taken on the back of their first album. They were very influential and inspirational to me as a young keyboardist/musician growing up in Topeka. The Sunflower on the front represents my origins in Topeka, as well.”

Lisa LaRue became the first female artist signed to the Sound of America Records label (SOAR) a sub label of Natural Visions, the first all-Native American record label founded by Grammy Winner and Motown producer Tom Bee. In 2008 Lisa was nominated for a Hollywood Music Award and was also awarded The Oklahoma Music Award for “Native American Artist of the Year.” Her band 2KX was Nominated as Instrumental Band of the Year in 2011 by the Los Angeles Music Awards.

Lisa has also appeared on recordings by others, including Head Transfer Process (Stargazer), Esquire with Nikki Squire (“Stay Low”), Don Schiff, Ryo Okumoto, Oliver Wakeman, Steve Gresswell, Quester and Beyond the Labyrinth.

The songs on “Origins” were written and recorded over 25 years. Some in a small recording studio in Tahlequah, OK over a year’s time with John “Yakfe” Timothy, and some in Los Angeles working extensively with John Payne as a co-producer, mixing engineer, bassist and vocalist. Also certain songs were known as some of the first prog projects done via internet transfer, and finalizes with “Sussuration” and “Lemniscate,” completely produced and mixed by LaRue.

Says Lisa, “This album is extremely important – it’s important to me, as it represents 25 years of my life, and some of the best work I’ve done with some of the best friends in the world. It’s important because it represents the unity and bringing together of many musicians, big and small, through the universal language, music. Lastly, it’s important to fans, as it represents some of the obscure work of many top-notch artists that they may not have in their collection. Melodic Revolution and Nick Katona have always been known for bringing artists together, so there is no better label to showcase this 25 year effort.”

“Lisa has a unique perspective to her music. Her Prog rock style is highly influenced by her Native American roots. The listener is drawn in by the mystical and avant-garde approach. From my point of view it has always been a pleasure and great experience working on her music.” – John Payne

“A very atmospheric composition, with a lovely tranquil finale. I hear a lot of my father’s influence in it, a beautiful arrangement.” – Aaron Emerson (son of Keith Emerson) regarding the song “Aspiration”

“Some incredible music with 2K9 and 2KX. 2K9 was the beginning….getting to know each other musically, hoping that what you submitted met the criterion, listening to each other’s output and certainly not wanting to overplay. In my opinion though, this process came to fruition with 2KX’s ‘Fast & Blue’: an accord harmonically, rhythmically, and melodically. I would call a musical synchronicity. Plus I had a joyous yet challenging time contributing!” –  Steve Adams, guitarist for Lisa LaRue Project 2K9 and for 2KX

In conjunction with the release of “Origins,” Lisa would like to focus on licensing for soundtracks, television, etc., and being a guest orchestrator on other artist’s projects. In closing she has this to impart, “This album brings together all of the messages of all of my albums. Heritage and culture, bringing people together from around the world, giving each other creative outlets, and finding your spirit means you’ve made peace with the world and yourself.”
