The Angry Bishops - Lost Days Found (2014)

They once were lost, but now they're found!
In 1995, shortly after recording their debut album, the Altar Boys entered into a management contract. They turned over their master tapes in the process, which were to be shipped to record labels.
Recently, founding members John Devlin and Bobby Civitello sat down to discuss their band’s name change from Altar Boys to The Angry Bishops and reveal why it took a “crusade” to release an album that had been missing for twenty years. “In those days,” Devlin says, “we didn’t know much about the music business. We just knew music.”

Two years later, despite touring, the band had no record deal, no money, and found themselves plagued by substance abuse. The Altar Boys, their dreams, and the management company dissolved. One day last year, Devlin began to wonder what happened to their tapes. “Those songs are a part of my soul. That album was my prodigal son. I needed it to find its way home.” Devlin embarked on a journey to find the lost music.

First, he attempted to locate the old management company. He found a dead end. Next, he turned to the internet. “I got an e-mail from John [Devlin],” Civitello explains. “He asked about the tapes. I told him, ‘I thought you had them’.” Intrigued by the notion of rediscovering those old songs he’d written, Civitello joined in the movement. Together, he and Devlin tracked down former Altar Boys rhythm guitarist New York Dick and drummer Joe Graz. Both were engaged in other projects, and neither had a clue where the masters where.

As Devlin and Civitello’s efforts to locate the lost album began to gain momentum, their diligence was causing them to confront lost days as well. “I mean, we started asking old girlfriends,” Civitello says. “Old clubs we used to play. Sound men, booking agents, roadies, you name it. Anybody that might be able to help.” Then, a breakthrough occurred. Devlin got a call from Paul Opalach of Long Hill Recording, the studio where the album had been recorded all those years ago. An ADAT of the sessions survived, and seven tracks were available.

Four of the seven salvaged tracks have been remastered and will be released as an EP. The album, Lost Days Found, will be available on October 28, 2014. Since the music was found, Devlin and Civitello agreed that the next step was to pick up where they’d left off 20 years ago. Recently, the two began working on new material and released a new name for their project.

Inviting everyone to join them on the newest chapter in their music, Devlin and Civitello have renamed themselves The Angry Bishops. A tribute to all the bands who never got so far, The Angry Bishops is honored to have the opportunity to make new music and breathe new life into their older music.
