Chavez Cartel - Confidence Is All I'm Taking Home (EP)

After the release of their debut EP " Lucky Lucky " earlier this year, Gold Coast alternative rockers Chavez Cartel are coming back with their new EP " Confidence Is All I'm Taking Home ".

The new EP reveals the bands spirit of self belief and persistence to overcome obstacles, doubts and negative criticism. It reveals their struggle to go beyond their limits so that they can continue as individuals, but also collectively as a band.

With the help of the producer Govinda Doyle, the EP contains 5 new songs. They successfully manage to bring us their own personal hard rock sound with influences from the 90s grunge scene, mostly by bands as Nirvana and Alice In Chains.

The title of the EP comes from lyrics of the first track 'Scum and Fears'; "Confidence is all I'm taking home. Hard earned like ya fathers gold. I'd pay for pain but you bring so much for free." To grow we must accept who we are, flaws and all; embrace every opportunity we're given, make mistakes to learn harsh lessons and become a better version of ourselves. This is my favorite track from the EP. Hard rock/grunge in Nirvana style, with great guitar work and very expressive vocals.

The second track is 'Different Underneath'. Heavy rock with fantastic rythm section and guitars on fire. The lyrics are about the battle between doubt and self belief wrestling it out for pole position. Overall it's an encouragement to stop doubting yourself, bite the bullet and pursue your aspirations with confidence.

'Love On The Run' is the single from the EP.. Catchy vocal melodies and riff that sticks in the mind.

The fourth track 'For Better Or Worse' is a love song about making it through all the ups and downs that come with a romantic relationship and the commitment associated with the vow 'till death do us part'. This is my second favorite song from the EP. A hypnotic rythm with an intensity that is peaking as it goes.

Last song is 'See You Again' which is focusing on broken promises and empty words. It's a live acoustic gothic rock song. Ideal closure for this fantastic EP.

I personally enjoy this work every time I listen to it and I never get bored. Chavez Cartel have everything they need to become a great rock band.

Foreign Television - Minus 27

Foreign Television is the project of Francis Allen, a multi-instrumentalist from Wales, UK, currently based in Moscow, Russia. The new, self-titled album was released on 21st October, 2019. All songs off the album were written and recorded in Moscow and Wales between 2016 and September, 2019. BBC Radio recently played 'A Fine Blaze', a song off the new album, on Adam Walton's show.

'Minus 27' is Foreign Television's new, two-song single, released on the 20th December, 2019.
The single's title track is a very melodic indie pop-rock song about going back for Christmas to the place you grew up, and how it feels to be back there. In some respects, it's the same as it has always been and it is clear it will always be a part of you, but in other ways, you understand why you left in the first place. With the beautiful, melodic vocals and the noizy guitar, the song manages to bring us the atmosphere that its creator wants.
'They Don't Know' is a cover of a Kirsty MacColl song that was originally released in 1979.

The first Foreign Television album, 'Youthless', came out in 2013. The project started in 2011, having released 4 instrumental albums as 'Snowmobile' between 2007 and 2011. A song off 'Youthless' (Olympic Christie) is going to be featured on 'Waking', a game coming out on Xbox in winter, 2019.

WD-HAN - Spaceman

WD-HAN is a three piece rock band from Tampa Bay, FL. Their sound is a mix of pop beats and synth sounds with gritty, soulful vocals and blues inspired guitar hooks. They are strongly influenced by Young the Giant, the Black Keys and Imagine Dragons.

After their debut album Kings of Castles, the 2018's EP Monkey, and the recently released single Summertime Star Sign, are coming back with their new song Spaceman.

The new single continues the theme of dealing with departure positively and purposefully. Where do you go when you’ve had enough of the world and gotta get away? You build your own rocket, thumb your nose at the world and sing Spaceman as you sail away.Vocalist Spencer Barnes says about the track: “It’s an unapologetic letter to you doing you.”

WD-HAN continue to offer us high quality music with this up-lifting blues rock track. Great vocals with fantastic guitar and drum work that makes you stand up and dance to the catchy rythm. At the same time they sound very fresh and unique.

Minutes To Midnight - Love Field

Minutes to Midnight, a music producer based in the UK, has launched a new artist project specifically to tell a real-life tale of imprisonment and liberty. “After 1989 – A Trip To Freedom” is the debut solo album which tells the story from his perspective as a grandson, who has only recently uncovered answers to how his grandfather managed to escape Germany in 1945.This concept album is a modern-day attempt at storytelling, a glimpse into hope.

ALBUM SYNOPSIS

Summer, mid-eighties. During a family dinner, after a glass too many, his grandfather let a story slip from his past. He told them how fascists captured and sent him to Germany, where he spent four years in Sachsenhausen concentration camp, on the outskirts of Berlin.

The Nazis spared his life because of his craftsmanship as a shoemaker. In April 1945, a few days before the Allies stormed into the city, he managed to escape with a fellow Russian inmate. They crossed Europe and came back home.

Simone (Minutes to Midnight) grew up during the Cold War, obsessed by a shared feeling of impending doom. His very first trip was to Prague and Berlin, a few months after the collapse of the Wall. He watched a divided city as it still was, but didn’t dare to visit the camp. Many years later, he was able to put his resolve to the test.

Present day. Once again, He’s back in Berlin, this time to finally see the Konzentrationslager. He's on the S-Bahn train to Oranienburg. At each station, his mind goes back in time, to the tumultuous decades that preceded the 9th of November 1989, when people were able to cross the Wall. He's thinking about the connection between his grandfather’s story and the convoluted menacing world order that came out of it.

When he finally cross the steel gate of Sachsenhausen, he realise how this whole story is about being a prisoner. Whether in a concentration camp, behind a wall, caught within propaganda or fearing a nuclear holocaust.

The Song

Love Field is the new single from the After 1989 – A Trip To Freedom concept album. Beautiful classic rock sounds with clear and expressive vocals and a video that takes us through the arrival of JFK and his wife Jackie in Dallas before he's been shot. We see the change of people feelings from joy to sadness.

Hunter Gatherers - Run Boy

Run Boy is a high energy rock track with urgent vocals combined with screaming guitar, furious bass-line and pounding beat. The song manages to transmit a feeling of agony which peaks as it progresses towards the end. Personally it's one of the tracks that I'm stuck with the last days.

Run Boy is the new single by the London-based band Hunter Gatherers from their debut album The Way Down. It comes with a new Anime-style video by animator Ana García Sebastiá which tells the story of a young man who's been hiding out from his nemesis the Voodoo Woman. He gets an anonymous tip-off that she has found him, and there follows a breathless chase around the urban wastelands of the desolate city, featuring her cronies, a helpful rat and a rendezvous in an abandoned army base.

Hunter Gatherers have been playing together across the UK music scene for more than a decade and their sound ranges across stomping country blues, screaming rock, scratchy reggae, intimate folk and soulful gospel.

Band Members:
Peter Michaels (guitarist)
Agata Kubiak (violinist)
Matheus Nova (bassist)
Demi Garcia Sabat (drummer)

boWsER - People in the TV

People in the TV is the first single from the forthcoming album Whispers From The Wickerman by Australian hard rock trio boWsER.

Coming back after a lengthy hiatus, the band forge a new sub-genre that they have named #volcanic rock

People in the TV lyrics are about paranoia and mental health in the digital age, influence of multi-media and those that would seek to control us.

The riff itself was inspired by Cream’s Strange Brew. Guitarist Brad Weynton says: "I saw a documentary about Soundgarden’s 1994 album Superunknown. During pre-production, producer Michael Beinhorn advised Chris Cornell to write songs like his favourite band as a means to alleviate writers block. I love Cream, so People in the TV is my attempt to write in their style."

The single release is coming with new film clip, produced by Timberwolf Films. Cryptic and creepy it has an erratic visual narrative, flicking between images of the band performing with
demonic looking figures parading as controversial public figures. Then there’s the kid in the evil clown mask.

Bassist Otto Mitter says : "Sections of the clip resemble people in the TV that you commonly see such as Donald Trump and other political figures that have a big influence on the world as it is today. The child glued to the TV screen represents the next generation and their exposure to the dark nature of media. We’re questioning how it will ultimately affect their sense of the world and their ability to make positive choices."

The exceptional quality recording is produced by acclaimed UK/Australian producer Steve James (Screaming Jets, The Superjesus, Mental As Anything) . The song has a slower, more grinding groove than previous releases and reminds the sound of bands like QOTSA, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets and Tool, .

Loud, dynamic and inventive, boWsER churn out rock music the way it's meant to be. With an apocalyptic intelligence and a crunchy, volcanic, riff-driven explosion of sound, it’s easy to see why boWsER were once hand selected to support the Eagles of Death Metal and became finalists in the QSong Awards.

Salad Boys - This Issue

Salad Boys return with their new single This Issue . Here we have a garage rock track where the most important role have the guitars, which produce a highly addictive and noisy riff. The vocals, in contrast with all this noise, are melodic and velvety.

They already have some amazing performance credits to their name including a tour of the US in 2015 where they performed a set live to air on KEXP in Seattle and at Jack White's Third Man Records in Nashville. They supported Brian Jones Town Massacre in their home town of Christchurch NZ in late 2015 and also supported Parquet Courts on their run of shows throughout NZ in 2015.

Monique Barry - Gone + Eagles

Singer-songwriter Monique Barry suprises us by releasing two new songs as one single.

The dual release begins with Gone, which is about the emotional loss and betrayal experienced for the first time. “It's cold since you are gone,” she sings, her lyrics gently rising through an otherworldly soundscape as she describes the disillusionment when a beloved figure is finally seen with all flaws and failings revealed. As she continues the journey from idealistic loyalty to emotional defeat,
she sings of being “lost in freedom's arms,” a description that might apply to both the betrayer and herself, but with entirely different meanings. While the song progresses, her voice, floating through echoing instrumental layers, takes on the blending qualities of wounded chanting and a faraway adult lullaby.

Searching through the journey from idealism to disappointment, Monique takes the themes and emotional dynamics of Gone into the musical hooks and catchy sonic quirks of the second song Eagles. Starting with the multi-atmospheric weave of instrumental rustlings, vibrations, and nudging drumbeats, Monique's voice soars above it all, taking its own form of flight. Musical ripples, splinters, and crashes, all of it both jittery and relaxing, build as Monique's singing ascends in pitch, becoming airborne and birdlike, taking the listener along on her creative search of freedom and defeat. Ultimately the two songs flow into each other, both thematically and musically, each leading the other into a unified vision.

While providing vocals and performing on keyboards, Monique is joined by Michael Wojewoda on drums, as well ascoproducing and mixing; Marc Meriläinen on guitar; and Alisdair Jones on bass.
Always a chance-taking performer, Monique Barry has been hailed for her “hypnotic mystique” (eye magazine) and “dynamic vocal range” (The Independent Weekly). Consistently willing to experiment with musical forms, she has more than demonstrated the aesthetic knowhow to back up her performing instincts. Her previous albums—Moody (1998), Tripping (2003), Carbon (2009), and Wake (2013)—have established a critically appreciated affinity for musical dynamism and innovation.

SEIL LIEN - Kiss Me Like I'm Somebody Else

Kiss Me Like I'm Somebody Else is the new single by SEIL LIEN.

It's a very catchy alternative rock track with impressive vocals and lyrics about the masks we wear in relationships and although they keep us safe, make us feel strong and in control, we can also lose sight of who we are.Βoth the singer's voice and the wonderful music take us into a journey to the strange world of human relationships.

SEIL LIEN is Marie Claire Lee described as “Scotland’s best kept secret” and awarded funding from Creative Scotland. SEIL LIEN signed a publishing deal with Ninja Tune leading to an incredible launch into the UK consciousness in 2018 with her first single, A Little While More, from the debut EP of the same name, being featured on Boots No7 cosmetics campaign. SEIL LIEN has been creeping into the radar of BBC2 Johnnie Walker Rock Show and Ones to Watch on Planet Rock. Bloggers and
national press have also caught on to the intensity hailing SEIL LIEN as an “an exceptional talent, with range and depth that will make a full length album something to behold”.

Drew Davies - Beautiful World

Beautiful World is Drew Davies' new single from the newly released EP, 'We Need To Talk'.

It is a melodic rock song with very catchy melodies, reminding of the late 80s - early 90s melodic rock scene that has gained great success. Guitars in combination with dramatic Saxophone and vintage synthesizers make a musical rich effect.

Lyrically, 'Beautiful World', is centred around some of our current socio-political issues, but Davies tackles the subject from a place of observation, rather than making a political statement.

Speaking of the track Davies explains: 'Beautiful World' was a song I wrote about the problems facing us all. I wrote it like an episode of the 9 o'clock news, it focuses on the divisions we see in society and the disenfranchisement and fall of many to the edges of society; all set against the backdrop of the climate emergency we are living through. The song is not political, instead I wanted to focus on how we could work better together than apart.”

London-based rock soloist Drew Davies has been featured by the likes of Clash Magazine, Atwood Magazine, Music News and Pure Grain Audio amongst others. He has seen radio play from BBC Introducing London with Gary Crowley, BBC Radio York’s Introducing with Jericho Keys, BBC Wales, Radio X, and as a previous member of The Mercy House, the band saw support from Kerrang, Classic Rock Magazine, Metal Hammer, MTV and BBC Radio 6 and Radio X. He has toured extensively in the UK and Europe, had music featured on the Rock Band video game, played Download Festival, London’s Scala and the iconic Troubadour.

Davies comes from a long line of singers and musicians. He has spent the better part of the last decade treading the boards of venues and festivals across the UK and Europe with various bands, working in musical collaborations, writing for other artists and singing in session gigs to get by. Through successes, setbacks and everything in between, he has poured himself into his musical labours, and has now produced his most personal work to date.

'We Need To Talk' EP was mixed by Steve Honest (Oasis, Eurythmics) and mastered by John Webber (David Bowie, Super Furry Animals).

Down In Splendour - Alice Underground

After getting great reviews for the debut single Green , London based , international psychedelic conspirators Down In Splendour release their new song Alice Underground , which is a contemporary take on the classic Alice in Wonderland story. The track was inspired by an immersive theatre production of the same name, which took place in the labyrinth of ancient tunnels under Waterloo Station in London.

The song can be described as a unique style psychedelic rock that introduces us to a world full of colors and exciting sounds from a variety of instruments.

Come at the King - Crazy Ugly Beautiful (EP 2019)

Crazy Ugly Beautiful is the new EP from the London based rock band Come at the King. Here we have four songs where the guitar has the most important role. The opening track Crazy Ugly Beautiful and the second Frauds with their slow guitar riffs and the vocals,  reminds of the 90's Britpop masters Oasis. The third song, which is my favourite, is Hanging On. Here the rythm is faster, the riff more catchy with a great guitar work that is noticeable from the beggining. This is a song that makes you move. The EP closes with a honest rock cover to the 1998 Fatboy Slim's smash hit of Praise You.

Come at the King are a three-piece rock and roll band from London influenced by the clues infused sounds of the 00's rock and roll revival with a British attitude reminiscent of the mid 90's Britpop scene, with huge hooking riffs, solos and choruses. The EP is led by the title track, which is a fan favourite at their shows, which are getting bigger and better throughout the capital and beyond. Crazy Ugly Beautiful EP combines the sounds of all of their previous releases but has an epicness to it that could establish Come at the King as a serious band rather than a local London band.
