"Cost Of Living" is a sharp, fun blast of Brit pop energy. Luke Mortimore and James Mcrea keep it raw and DIY. James's lead guitar cuts through with crisp, twangy riffs, while Luke's rhythm guitars and keys add that classic jangle. The rhythm section drives a bouncy, dancy groove that's impossible not to move to.
Luke's vocals are cheeky and catchy, full of dry sarcasm. Lyrics nail the British knack for complaining with humour: partygate hangovers, inflation woes, first-world moans, all delivered with a wink.
Production is lo-fi but lively. Recorded at James's studio, it has that warm, garage feel with clean enough mastering to let every hook pop. It's loud, catchy, and full of personality. A brilliant debut.
