Morass of Molasses - These Paths We Tread (2017)

Self-described "swamp master generals" MORASS OF MOLASSES will release their new album These Paths We Tread on May 19th 2017 via HeviSike Records.  The album's 7 tracks blend fuzz, sludge and doom and will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the best records of 2017.

Morass Of Molasses create the kind of lumbering heavy blues riffs which induce involuntary head nodding and a deep stirring of the loins. The band's short life so far has also seen them sharing stages with such luminaries of the scene as Orange Goblin Ohhms, Vodun, Elephant Tree, Desert Storm, Space Witch,, Sea Bastard, Limb, Gurt and many more. Their gutsy Jagermiester stage performance at Bloodstock helped propel them into a relentless schedule of touring during which they released their debut  EP ‘So Flows Our Fate’.
The new album, These Paths We Tread is a veritable melting pot of ideas, blended together, forming a thick stew of heavy blues with side of doom for good measure. As in the EP before, the band uses the album as a vehicle to explore concepts of mythic sin and ancient archetypes. The Journey we take through life as humans is ever at the forefront, and drives the songwriting.

Track Listing:

1. My Leviathan
2. So They Walk
3. Serpentine
4. The Ritual

6. Maenads
7. Wrath Of Aphrodite

Atonement Theory - Illumination (EP 2017)

Release: 28 July 2017

ATONEMENT THEORY  will release a deluxe digital version of Illumination, which was previously released on vinyl via I Defy Records. The new version will have downloadable liner notes and will contain a bonus track.

The bonus track will be made available to reviewers in the coming weeks, in the meantime please use the current version for review purposes.

The deluxe version of Illumination will be released on July 28th 2017.

Atonement Theory was officially formed in the spring of 2016 as Jay Jancetic of Harm's Way "solo project." Jancetic also previously played guitar for Chicago hardcore bands Arma Angelus (ex Fall Out Boy), Extinction (ex Suicide File, Hope Conspiracy) and Stabbed By Words (ex Unbroken, Sweet Cobra.)

Although born several years prior when work on the debut EP "Illumination" actually began, the spawn behind Jancetic's project was to deliver a deliberate balance of heavy and melodic music, while expressing a deep emotional connection. Mixing industrial drum machine beats with driving guitar work, Atonement Theory delivers a unique sound, painting darkness with melodic ethereal brushstrokes. Jancetic transports you with the dark, driving, and forceful core of Isis, the melodic emotional melancholy of Failure and the omnipresent atmospheric heaviness of Neurosis.

In June of 2016, Jancetic added Greg Bruchert (ex The Killer, Synnecrosis) to perform live bass duties, and Atonement Theory began performing live and released their debut 12” EP “Illumination” on Chicago based Indie-label IDEFY Records. A music video (directed by Max Moore) for the intended single “Sink; The Abyss Of Dwelling” was subsequently released in August 2016 as well and debuted on New Noise Magazine’s website. The music for the debut EP was written and recorded by Jay Jancetic at his home studio over the course of several years before being completed in late 2015. Vocal recording, additional production, mixing and mastering were completed by Pete Grossman at Bricktop Studios (Without Waves, Weekend Nachos, Exalt, Like Rats, No Zodiac) in 2015.

Jancetic (guitars/vocals/keyboard/programming) has also since added Phil Marfoglio (guitar) and Eorl Scholl (drums) to the lineup in a step to both to perform the songs live and in an evolution away from a "solo project" to a more traditional lineup. Jancetic continues to write, record and produce the majority of the music himself with the intent of releasing more music.

TAINTED LADY - How The Mighty Have Fallen (2017)

Tainted Lady is a hard-hitting, unadulterated, energetic rock band from Denmark consisting of five passionate musicians in their early twenties. After being joined by British singer Michael Catton in 2015, Tainted Lady has been collaborating with musician and producer Soren Andersen (Glenn Hughes, Electric Guitars) – and now they are ready to release their debut album “How The Mighty Have Fallen” on May 26th 2017 through Mighty Music.

Fueled by a passion to make rock music dangerous again, the five members strongly voice their opinions through their lyrics and are never afraid to speak their minds –Soren Andersen even dubbing their music “rebel-rock”. Learning their craft from bands of different eras of rock like Deep Purple, Skid Row and even The Beatles, they are determined to write original music of real substance, always seeking unique ways to arrange and refine their old-school style of playing. With a blend of Catton’s distinctive vocals, screeching twin guitar solos, big Queen-like harmonies, rumbling bass and thundering drums, they are a rebellious act to be reckoned with - writing rock music like it has never been written before.

“How The Mighty Have Fallen” was written and recorded in 2016 and is the result of intense sessions where the band ended up writing over 35 songs before finally arriving at the ten songs on the album. With a pure live production, the band’s renowned energetic live performances and attitude has been captured for all to experience.  The core of the group have stuck together since they were teenagers, playing in their bedrooms, dreaming of one day releasing a full-length album. Last year they scraped all the money they had together, and made that dream come true in Medley Studios with Soren Andersen.

Vocalist Michael Catton on the title “How The Mighty Have Fallen”:
“The title comes from one of our songs, which sort of ironically pokes fun at the lack of originality in the rock genre today, especially among the established rock bands. But we found that it actually reflects well on most of lyrics on the album, where a general theme is the established vs. the anti-established, the old vs. the new. At the same time it refers to the state of the world in 2017.”

Tainted Lady has been touring all over Denmark in recent years, including playing major Danish festivals such as Jelling Musikfestival and Rock Under Broen. They also got the chance to support acts like Deep Purple, Pretty Maids, and Electric Guitars. At the moment they are planning extensive touring in Denmark and Europe throughout 2017-2018, and following the release of their album, Tainted Lady is truly set to make a real impact on the rock scene today.

Line-up:

Michael Catton - Vocals
Jonatan Shoshan - Guitars (R Speaker)
Anders Frank - Guitars (L Speaker)
Daniel Bach - Bass

Abandoned Souls - Make It Last (EP 2017)

There is power in a band’s name, like a magic spell, announcing to the world what they are and what they stand for. ABANDONED SOULS summons up images of Milton’s ‘Paradise Lost’, heroic outcasts rising up against impossible odds, to establish their own unique identity.

As vocalist James Todd explains:

"The name Abandoned Souls is in reference to all those people out there that have at one time or another felt like the outcast. That common bond and love for this music is what brings all of us Abandoned Souls together.”

Having played together for years, the bonds that hold ABANDONED SOULS together are... to paraphrase the mighty Judas Priest…Canadian Steel! Inspired by Alter Bridge, Alice In Chains, Metallica, Judas Priest, Godsmack and Kings X, Todd describes Abandoned Souls’ sound as ‘powerful, heavy, rhythmic, melodic, personal.’
The band is super-stoked about their new EP "Make It Last".

“We want to give the fans a pure and unfiltered listening experience, one that reflects us and where we are at in our musical journey and our lives. It is as much a reflection of who we are as musicians as it is of us as people.”

They see band and fans as one and indivisible.

“This band has been a very good parallel for the life struggles that a lot of people go through.”

Of course live, Abandoned Souls really let it rip.

“We don’t just stand up there and look at the ground. We can’t help but get into what we’re doing.”

This is the philosophy behind the title of Abandoned Souls new EP.

“’Make It Last’ is a reference to always trying to make the good times in life last as long as you can. As much as possible, try to live every minute like it could be your last…Time is fleeting, so…Make It Last!”

Märvel - The Hills Have Eyes (2017)

Release: 7 July 2017
Märvel was formed in 2002 when John Steen (The King), Ulrik Bostedt ( Speedo) and Tony Samuelsson (The Vicar) spent a high school exchange year in Colorado, USA. Ditching classes, drinking beer and playing rock n roll in the garage worked out pretty fine for the three young fellas. The first vinyl ep "Marvellous" was released through the small NY based label "New York Powerhitters" and the band got airtime on several college radio stations before they left the USA and returned to Sweden with lousy grades, but high spirits. Two other vinyl eps (Heroine Tracks, Bedlam at the embassy) were released the following years through Swedish indie labels.
The first album, titled "Five Smell City" after their hometown Linköping (known locally as the city of five smells ) was followed by a ep with cover tracks (Unleashed) ranging from Bon Jovi, Parliament, KISS and Robyn.
In 2017 Märvel shas started to work with The Sign Records with the ambition to release a new album during the autumn of 2017 and do international releases of the band's previous albums. The first album to get a wider distribution is "The Hills Have Eyes" followed by "Warhawks of War" during the late summer of 2017. A new chapter in the history of Märvel have started.

ANGELWINGSwere born in April 2013 out of a group of experienced musicians that had been in the Gibraltar local music scene for some time and who had played in different bands a wide variety of musical genres.

Siberian - Through Ages of Sleep (2017)

Release: 30 June 2017
Through Ages of Sleep is Siberian's second theme-based album in their "Age Trilogy". The Swedish three-piece mixes influences from American sludge and Scandinavian metal and have created a unique wall of sound. The album is written and based on band members Gus Ring, Linus Marron and Daniel Eklöw own dreams during a 2 year period. Thanks to the wide spread of genres the band have captured many audiences from different scenes. Adding Gus Ring's powerful and haunting vocals with mixtures from traditional Eurasian folk music, makes Through Ages of Sleep an album with direct impact.
Returning to Joona Hassinen and his Studio Underjord to record Through Ages of Sleep was the obvious choice for the band, keeping the trilogy true to it´s core. Angus 'Angst' Norder (Witchery, Nekrokraft) recorded bass on all songs. Mastering were done by Brad Boatright at AudioSiege (YOB, Skeletonwitch, Converge) Mattias Frisk (Ghost, Vanhelgd, Miasmal) illustrated the album on oil panel with no guidance other than the dreams that were written down by the band.

Siberian is a heavy metal band from Linköping, Sweden that finds its influences mainly in the American sludge and post-metal scene. Mix that together with their Scandinavian background and you will start to get an idea of what Siberian is all about. Uncompromising walls of sound meet melody and melancholia.
Siberian released their theme-based debut album Modern Age Mausoleum in 2014. It was the first chapter in Siberian´s 'Age Trilogy'. The album displays a dark view of the modern society and is strongly influenced by dystopian literature. The band followed the album release with several tours in Europe. As the tour cycle of the debut album came to an end the band had gathered substantial live experience after having played at clubs and festivals across Europe. Thanks to the wide spread of genres the band have captured many audiences from different sub-groups and developed into a fierce live act with the ability to enthral audiences.
During the two years after the debut, the band worked with the documentation of all their personal dreams. The material became the foundation of what was to become their second theme-based release in the trilogy named Through Ages of Sleep. The follow-up explores the subconscious mind in dreams and is portrayed both sonically and lyrically. The album takes Siberian a step further and sounds more mature and grown up compared to the previous debut. The band have stated in interviews that they shun away from any musical rules and focus only on writing what feels right. Which becomes very clear on the new record since there are no typical verse-chorus-verse structure.
