Fossway - Bravest Of The Pride (EP 2019)

Fossway is a rock band from Newcastle Upon Tyne. Their music is a combination of alternative, hard and progressive rock influenced by Radiohead, Rush, and Muse.
 
Their debut EP, 'Bravest of the Pride', was released on the 9th November. It's a mix of the traditional and contemporary styles of rock music. With the ambitious arrangements, eerie classical-tinged chord progressions, and dark, relevant themes, each song is a micro-thesis of their respective topics.

Masterfully played music , drums and bass that carry a progressive tone , guitars from another planet and very expressive vocals give us a beautiful effect that doesn't ger boring, no matter how many times you hear it.

The opening track, ‘Crazy Animal Times’, which is my favourite, talks about the animalistic nature of society, highlighting themes of survival and togetherness, which in turn offers links to consumerism, life, and global warming. Next, ‘The Silver Screen Illusion’ is about the falsehood of celebrity culture, social media, and the unhealthy desire for fame and fortune. ‘The Waiting Room’, in an honest measure, explores anxiety, particularly derived from the rise of technology and social media. And finally, ‘Field of Thorns’ talks about youth and popular culture, focusing on the fall and revival of rock music.

With this new set of original compositions, Fossway hope to further their growing reputation across the nation.

Snap Border - Endscape

Here we have another great song. A modern and melodic hard rock talking about abandoning a world devastated by corrupted humans. Guitars that spitting fire in combination with the strong rythm section and the melodic vocals make the track one of the best we've heard lately.

Snap Border is an alternative rock band founded in 2012.They play a powerful mix of genres which creates its own universe with a striking and a communicative aesthetic which is easy to understand.

Snap Border released their debut album, "Alternative Current Box" in 2016, which was acclaimed by critics and toured the stages with bands like Tagada Jones, Mass Hysteria, Alestorm, Ugly Kid Joe, Lacuna Coil... but also many festivals such as la Guerre du Son or the East Summer Fest.

The band is now back in studios to record their second album with Anthony Chognard & CHS prod (Smash Hit combo, Tess, ...) scheduled for fall 2020. Endscape is the first single from the new album and is coming with a new video. 

Pyx - The Movies

 
Μulti-instrumentalist Wesley Triffitt is no stranger to the Kent music scene. Cutting his teeth with local lo-fi stars Tin Foil Astronaut, his new project, Pyx , quickly established itself as a listeners’ favourite on Fresh on the Net after debuting on Abbie McCarthy’s esteemed BBC Introducing in Kent radio show. 

After the release of the single ‘Play On’ earlier this year, Pyx return with ‘The Movies’, the first single from their upcoming as-of-yet untitled debut album. This melodic pop-rock track is rich in texture and as cinematic as the song title suggests, evoking at once regret and the contrast between the image we present of ourselves and the private sphere.‘The Movies’ is a slow tempo song reminding of Radiohead (from The Bends era) and Elbow. It showcases Wesley’s songwriting talent, his evolving theatrical-like psychedelic sound and natural instinct for production. It is recorded and mastered in Wesley’s hometown of Folkestone. 

Wesley says about the track: ‘The song is inspired by Manuel Puig‘s Kiss of the Spider Woman, a book which is for me about the power of cinema, imagery and the imagination. I wanted to create a really dynamic and cinematic sound - especially towards the end with the strings. It’s an uplifting, heartbreaking story. Hopefully the song crystallises the essence of that juxtaposition and takes people on that journey’

Saint Mars - HELP

Saint Mars comprises keyboardist and singer, Marc Darcange (a.k.a. M.D.), Massive Attack guitarist Angelo Bruschini and band frontman, wunderkind Tryzdin (aged 15). whose YouTube video singing Adele’s Hello , when he was just 11,  gained 3.7 million views so far. 
Saint Mars described by Swept Magazine as the « most promising alternative rock band to come out of the U.K. for some time ». 

The band are releasing their latest single, Help,which is a part of « Boys Never Cry », their forthcoming concept album centered on the true story of one 13 year-old boy’s tragic experience as a result of sustained bullying. 

Help is a powerful, modern heavy-driven pop anthem in the style of Paramore, Twenty One Pilots, Panic ! At the Disco or Bang Bang Romeo and comes out with the help of great musicians such as guitarist Brent Paschke (N.E.R.D./Pharrell Williams) and drummer Robert Brian (Siouxsie, Goldfrapp, Simple Minds).

Saint Mars talk about the song : "Help showcases Tryzdin’s mature and hard-hitting vocals, alongside with an infectious chorus and deceptively uplifting modern pop hooks. The song describes the antagonist nature of relationships based on love/hate and attraction/repulsion, driven by passion, and prone to breakaways and dramatic issues such as bullying and harassment."   

The single will follow a YouTube video release on November 29.

Halcyon Fields - Black Maps of Light

This is the first single Halcyon Fields are releasing ahead of their new album.

Halcyon Fields is an alternative fusion band from Columbia, SC.  They create a unique sound that mixes progressive and alternative rock that stands out from the rest of their peers.

Cyanide Sundae - Do or Die

Do or Die is the first single from Cyanide Sundae 's forthcoming EP, ‘The Club’ being released Feb 28th 2020.
The song is a hard rock dynamite reminiscent of late 80s - early 90s. The bass is dominant and catchy melodies are the main characteristics of the song, which reminds us that once such songs have filled the arenas.

Lyrically, the song is inspired by the words of Russian novelist Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's "The battle line between good and evil runs through the heart of every man" and speaks of the corruption, selfishness and evil that dominates the highest powers of the world.

Cyanide Sundae is an energetic and dynamic hard rock/metal hybrid with powerful melodies, ideal for the fans of  Foo Fighters, Royal Blood, Drowning Pool, and Tool. They produce a huge live sound for a three piece band with their unique set up.The band have headlined at Mammothfest in Brighton, headlined Meyfest and played the famous Ace Cafe in London for their annual Diamond Day bike show, amongst many other shows and events throughout the South of the UK.  

Make You Cry - Can You Wait

Can You Wait is the debut single from the 4-piece rock band Make You Cry released on November 1st.

Here we have a strong but melodic hard rock song with roaring drums, delicate guitars and very expressive vocals.The lyrics talk about the daily routine of a relationship that leads nowhere. The melodies are very catchy and sure they will make you sing. One of this year's most interesting and beautiful rock songs.

The track comes with a video that's weird but interesting.It's about going round and round in circles and doing the same thing over and over again but not really knowing why you’re doing it.

The Yellow Bellies - The Yellow Bellies (EP)

Alternarive and indie rock band from Brighton,The Yellow Bellies,  released their-self-titled debut EP on November 18.

Band members are : 
Reilly Sams (songwriter, lead vocals and guitar) 
Nico Cara (lead guitar and backing vocals)
Jack Yeoman (bass) and 
George Preston (drums, percussion and backing vocals) 

Their sound, with the help of Grammy Award-winning producer Pete Smith, is gritty with boomy vocals and tight clean sounds of the rhythm section.

The five-track EP is a mix of rock, alternative hip-hop, indie, pop, latino grooves and reggae and lyriccs about lust, longing, betrayal, isolation and delusion.

The first track Belly Of Yellow is rhythmic with a riff that stays in your mind, while the vocals are perfect.
In the same style and the second song Something New with its catchy melodies. Here the rhythm section is fantastic. The same and the guitars and the vocals.
Tequila is the third piece. Here the rhythm drops a bit and I consider it to be the weakest track on the EP.
The fourth song is Where Did Your Lover Go with a very catchy refrain talking about the rapidly changing society we live in.
The EP ends with the relaxed Please Them Honeybees. A low tempo track with reggae influences.
 
In conclusion, here we have a musical work that is heard from beginning to end without boring you, no matter how many times you hear it.

WD-HAN - Summertime Star Sign

WD-HAN is a three piece rock band from Tampa Bay, FL. Their sound is a mix of pop beats and synth sounds with gritty, soulful vocals and blues inspired guitar hooks. They are strongly influenced by Young the Giant, the Black Keys and Imagine Dragons

After their debut album Kings of Castles and the 2018's EP Monkey, are coming back with their new song Summertime Star Sign which is a rock ballad about those who have been loved and lost and what could have been said before it was too late.

The song starts with slow rythm. The expressive vocals with the companion of a guitar and a piano, turns to a rock anthem in the second part. A real good song. 

 

That's what the vocalist Spencer Barnes has to say about the track:
“Summertime Star Sign was written in the wake of losing a close friend to cancer, and missing an opportunity to see this person one last time. The finality of that realization was pretty hard-hitting, and I wanted to write a song that was the message I wish I'd been able to give him before he was gone. Obviously it's a sad topic, but it was important that the song be a message of hope, of something more after the body is gone. I hope the song means something to anyone else who's been through the fight or lost someone - bringing them a little joy, a little catharsis with music would be the best thing I can imagine, and a great honor to the friend I lost".

In connection with the meaning of “Summertime Star Sign”, WD-HAN is partnering with local non profit Women With Purpose, an organization committed to helping families currently fighting breast cancer, providing non-medical financial assistance. In the name of their current campaign, #GiveWhereYouLive, WD-HAN will be donating a percentage of merchandise revenue throughout November to the organization.

Ian McFarland - Long Distance

"Long Distance" was written during a low point during Ians time in Los Angeles. Homesick and friendless Ian found himself taking his guitar deep into the desert and having writing sessions in the hot sun. A confusing and lonely time birthed "Long Distance" which features light melodies and heartfelt lyrics.

Ian McFarland is a singer-songwriter original from Portsmouth, New Hampshire but has been on an artistic journey that has taken him around the globe playing shows as far as Barcelona, Spain to where he currently resides in Los Angeles, California. Ian McFarland is known to perform the bulk of instruments on his releases as well as recording the sounds himself wherever he happens to be. Drawing inspiration from a wide variety of music influences the young Berklee College of Music graduate has stood weathered the trials and tribulations of being a musician in a capitalist environment with poise. Having been in and out of a handful of bands starting in high school and extending through college, McFarland, decided to go solo in an effort to have an end of the line on creative decisions surrounding his composition. In his spare time Ian McFarland enjoys travel, the outdoors, writing music reviews for his own company Its Not Records, and watching sports. Currently in the studio creating two songs released as singles a month he is planning a move to NYC in 2019 to expand his network of artists and entrepreneurs.

Mount Forel - Witney

Mount Forel return with new single ‘Witney’. Released October 12th 2019, the song references the quiet and detached Oxfordshire town of the same name, where previous UK Prime Minister David Cameron comes from, and the troubles of the world seem a galaxy away.
Recorded in the village of Witney itself at Shaken Oak Studios, the track was mixed by Jake Murray at London’s Strongroom Studios.

With its lilting groove, 90s down beat grunge feel and intricately woven guitar arrangement, ‘Witney’ is a classic for our time. The vocal arrangement builds mystery around the track from the start, before all coming together in the chorus to deliver the line “There’s no place like home” reflecting on the isolated bubble of reassurance that purveys over the chocolate box Oxfordshire village.
Drummer Andrew Wakatsuki-Robinson explains further; “We were recording our album in Witney. It’s the most conservative place I’ve ever seen. We listed a bunch of things going sour right now - inequality, climate change, false is the new norm and air quality, then wrote a song about a town where none of these ills seem to exist; our own little Witney, if you will”.
Last month Mount Forel played a unique gig in a converted cinema in Walthamstow, East London, where the entire audience were blindfolded – giving fans a chance to completely immerse themselves in the music. An upcoming gig at Hackney Wick’s Grow on October 29th will see the audience invited to paint while listening to the band. Intrigued? You should be. 

Mount Forel have released two singles to date. ‘Greenland’, a song initially inspired by climate change, and debut single ‘America’, a sprawling six-minute epic featuring psych Neil Young esc guitars and schizophrenic drums.

Not your average band – the members of Mount Forel hail from across the globe. Denver Colorado, The Wirral, Osaka, Northern Ireland, Dunedin New Zealand, Tokyo and Manchester to be precise. If you’re counting more places than band members you aren’t going mad, each member of Mount Forel counts at least 2 places as home.

With their debut album ‘Small Worlds’ due out next year, there’s much to come from Mount Forel.

Stonerpop - Night Terrors

Stonerpop are about to release their new album 'American Dreams' on January 01, 2020. The album is about confidence and the lack thereof. It’s about impostors, both real and fake. It’s about failure and the illusion of victory. Stonerpop wants to encourage people to both relax and take action.

Stonerpop is an American duo, Jimmie Maneuva and Maudie Michelle,  who take the electronic music to another level. Synth pop and allternative rock mixed together bringing a strange, atmospheric result.

The best example of this electronic meets rock music is the new single 'Night Terrors' from their upcoming album.

Stonerpop's music is influenced by a range of artists, including Radiohead, Garbage, Metric, Fever Ray, U.N.K.L.E., and Massive Attack.

Francesco Luz - Plastic Guru

Francesco Luz is an Italian rock singer who has just released his first self-produced album called “Extraordinary Men”.
With the help from the writer Luigi Abramo and Matteo Palladini, producer and guitarist of the progressive band “Heartache” , Francesco presents a heterogeneous album with different musical genres inside, from hard rock to pop, from blues to acoustic ballads.

Plastic Guru is the first single. A hard rock song with progressive elements, guitars spitting fire and catchy melodic vocals. The lyrics are about the depression social media that we live.
The video of the single “Plastic Guru”, directed by Ari Takahashi, was awarded as Best Music Video at the New York Film Awards, September 2019.

Irvine - Guiding Pulses (EP)

Guiding Pulses is the new EP by alternative rock band Irvine from Johannesburg, South Africa.

In this EP Irvine introduce indie folk and synth-infused elements in their music.

The first track Waiting For Magic is instrumental at its largest part. In the last third the vocals outbursts that lead to the climax are coming threatening.
 
Next up is their latest single, Breathing, which is indicative of the new direction they are following in their music with its synth-laden, haunting vocals melded with raw instrumentation and unexpected sonic textures.
 
The third track is Scraps for the Underdogs, an up tempo track with beautiful tunes.

Next up is Reflections which was the EP's first single. The song combines an acoustic sensibility with the anthemic choruses that deliver the honesty and defiance that has become Irvine's hallmark of sound.
 
The final track of the EP is St. Peter's.With it's cutting-edge guitars and fast paced drumming becomes the perfect end to this fantastic EP.

Iris Hill - Boy, I Love You

Iris Hill is a four-piece indie rock band from Netanya, Israel. Their first single Boy, I Love You is a hard hitting anthem influenced from the mid-to-late 00’s indie-rock scene.
 
Cutting guitar tunes and vocals following the rhythm, create a composition reminiscent of Arctic Monkeys from the Favorite Worst Nightmare album.

Lyrically the song talks about an unstable relationship from the boy’s perspective. An uncertainty on how things going to end.
The track Boy I Love You released on all platforms on the 11th of October 2019.

Via Novus - End of Days (EP)

 

End of Days is the new concept EP from Mississippi alt metal band Via Novus. 

The lyrical theme is about a demonic seductress, who brings about the end of days.

The EP has five songs. It beggins with the heavy metal dynamite Reveletion Row and continues with Headstone Harlot which is an alternative metal anthem and also my favorite EP track. The 1:50 length Demoness is more a connection with the next song , Kingdom Fall which is a powerful mid-tempo metal track. Dolorem Sonata is the last song, an atmospheric one, with melancholic melodies that guides you to the conclusion of the story. 

This is one of the best metal works I've heard this year.

Angelo Boltini - Sympathise

Produced by Grammy nominated producer Attie Bauw (The Scorpions, Judas Priest), this song is not exactly what you expect to hear.It is a variety of sounds with the help of Am.Ok orchestra's string section and the characteristic voice of Angelo Boltini gives us a strange but beautiful effect. A song that no matter how many times you hear it, you will never get bored.

Angelo Boltini is a Dutch orchestral pop musician and Sympathise is a track taken from his album Human After All. He's a multi-instrumentalist and his range varies from jazz to classical to electronic to rock. Some may find that confusing, but if you listen to that amazing song you will understand that the effect justifies him.
 

Salsola - Cass

Northern indie pop outfit Salsola released their second single ‘Cass’ on 1st  November.

British pop rock music from the mid 90's could be that song. It has all the characteristics of the songs that made that period successful. Loud guitars accompany Suede's intense melodic vocals. Ideal for the fans of that music style.

Cass follows the release of their debut single ‘Embers’ , released last March , which became ‘It’s All Indie’s’ Track of the Week stating that “[Salsola] seemed to nail an upbeat Indie-Rock track right on the head with a slightly punk edge”. The track also received praise from various othe sources like Hype Machine Blog, Earthly Pleasures,  NARC Magazine and The Crack Magazine.
Salsola are celebrating the release of Cass by putting on a self-promoted show in Stockton's Green Room.

Michael Baker - Past The Evening

I love rock music. I like to headbanging under the sounds of Metallica and Maiden. But there are times when I want to lie in bed and put on the stereo something calmer and more emotional or hear something beautiful while driving in the rain.

This need covers this particular song for me. A beautiful ballad by Michael Baker, who talks about his love of music and what drove him to deal with it.

Accompanied mainly by an acoustic guitar and his imaginative and expressive voice, he travels us in the past and reminds us of the reasons that made us love music.

Carina T - Bucket List (New Single)

This is a song about following your dreams no matter what other people say. Even when people ridicularize you, you should follow dreams if you believe you can make it (even if the chances are small). I was an established PhD Researcher until I recently decided to follow my dream. Hearing other people's reactions to my quest, has led me to write this song.

Carina T is a Pop-Rock/Alternative London-based singer songwriter. She started singing at the age of 15 in a Rock band in Madeira Island. While at University, Carina was part of a folk music band where she was one of the lead singers and played ukulele. After working as a researcher in Boston, United States, and also in London, she realised she could not live without music. In 2017 Carina started recording her own songs, and recently released her songs “Too Real” and "Inside Your Mind".
